![]() What is your weightclass? - 170, looking to drop to 155 in the future Where do you train/what city do you represent? - I train at the Gazze Academy in Huntington Beach, CA and DG Boxing in Long Beach, CA where I currently reside and fight out of. What is your style and what does a normal day of training look like? - I wrestled ever since high school. I was an All-American at Goldenwest Three days a week I weight train and run in the morning then head to the Gazze Academy at night. Two days a week I train at the CSW training center with Eric Paulson during the day then box at DG Boxing at night. What do you think are your strengths? - Wrestling has always been my strength. With wrestling I have a developed toughness and an understanding of body control and how to work hard. I am tough to KO or submit and have never close to either. What is your current record? - 3 wins and 1 loss. What is your typical game plan when facing an opponent? - Always a feeling out phase standing to find my range and get the opponent thinking striking. If my opponent thinks I want to stand and punch I take him down, if he thinks I want to take him down I stand and trade. Once on top I like to ground and pound. I am still looking for my first submission in MMA to make my Jiu Jitsu coach happy. How do you prepare yourself mentally before stepping into the ring? - A good warm up and knowing you worked your hardest in training is the best confidence booster you can get. I think about how excited I am to get the chance to fight for money and how much fun it is. My cornerman and coaches keep me pumped up. What type of music do you listen to and who is your favorite artist or song when entering the ring? - I listen mostly to metal/rock to get pumped up to fight. Killswitch Engage is my favorite. Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth, Dream Theathre, Slayer, Lamb of God, stuff like that get me amped. Before I get amped I want to remain calm so I usually listen to country before I warm up to settle my nerves. Do you have any heroes? Who in MMA do you think your style is similar to? - The first MMA event I ever attended was UFC 34. I was there on a wrestling tournament and knew nothing about fighting. A lot of my teamates were huge fans and they explained to me what has happening while I was watching it. Randy Couture, Matt Hughes, Matt Lindland and a bunch of other wrestlers fought on that card and they all won. After I saw Hughes powerbomb slam Carlos Newton I fell in love with the sport instantly. Randy Couture is my hero. Who are your favorite fighters and why? - Randy Couture and Matt Hughes got me first into the sport and they will forever be my favorites because they had such a workman like style of fighting and were such tough wrestlers. What are your hobbies when you are not training or fighting? - The summertime is when I shine. The beach and bars take most of my free time. I'm single so I am out as often as my training schedule and fights will let me. When I am training it is all business and I don't play so when there is no fights on the horizon I make the most of it. Where do you see your MMA career in 2 years? - I will be a 155 pounder working my way up the ranks. I want to build up my name and experience and earn the right to fight the best. What is your ultimate goal in MMA? - I treat MMA like a business. I love fighting but I know fighting careers are short. I love teaching and coaching and enjoy the business aspect of fighting as much as the physical part. I am an editor for MMA Worldwide Magazine and TapouT Magazine so my life is basically MMA all the time and that is how I like it. |
