![]() What is your nickname? - The Irish Spartan What is your weightclass? - Welterweight/Lightweight Where do you train/what city do you represent? - Clementi's Gladiators Academy - Slidell, Louisiana What is your style and what does a normal day of training look like? - There is no one aspect that I prefer. I pride myself on being well rounded. Training for a fight we do lots of cardio and circuit training earlier in the day. At night, at the gym, we have about an hour of instructional with our coach Rich Clementi either in Stand-up or jits. After that we just battle. Everyday is like a fight atmosphere. It's all about pushing one another, we are definitely a family. I throw in some weight training at night. Rinse and repeat... What do you think are your strengths? - I have a strong will. I just simply refuse to quit. I like to push my opponents and make them feel my strength wherever the fight may go. I'm a hard guy to break. What is your current record? - My record is 5-2. What is your typical game plan when facing an opponent? - It's hard to maintain an actual game plan when punches start flying. I just try to stay where I am feeling comfortable. If he is really good in one area I will try to stay away. If he weak in a certain spot I will exploit it. I always try to make guys fight my fight instead of me just reacting to what he does. At least that's what it feels like I'm doing in my head... How do you prepare yourself mentally before stepping into the ring? - I for sure like to say a good prayer backstage. I just try to stay as relaxed as possible despite the fact that a guy will soon be attempting to punch my face. But seriously, I am very nervous before every fight, but as soon a I hear my music and my name being called I switch to auto pilot and do what I got to do. What type of music do you listen to and who is your favorite artist or song when entering the ring? - I dig all types of music (except country). I know I'm from Louisiana and the whole "South" thing is happening, but I can't stand it. Other than that I love all music. When I fight I always walk out to "Shipping up to Boston" by Dropkick Murphys. Always pumps me up!! Do you have any heroes? Who in MMA do you think your style is similar to? - My heroes are Wolverine, Gambit, Green Lantern, the Juggernaut, Captain Crunch, and Captain Planet. But in all seriousness, my only hero is my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am not me without Him. But as far as fighters go, I have worlds of respect for my manager and trainer Rich Clementi. He has made fighting for a living something that is definitely an achievable goal for me and a lot of other guys too. I like to think that my style is a not-so-good version of Rich's...but I try Who are your favorite fighters and why? - My favorite fighters are the guys that I bleed and sweat with everyday in the gym. Guys like Rich Clementi, J.C Pennington, Kenny Stevens, and a bunch more. No of the other fighters really make a difference to me. Still, I really like the way that Marcus Davis fights. He's got heart for days. What are your hobbies when you are not training or fighting? - My hobbies are acting, playing poker, eating cheesecake, playing video games, football, taking cat naps, and working out. Where do you see your MMA career in 2 years? - In two years I will hopefully be right on the cusp of being a UFC fighter. I would really like to do "The Ultimate Fighter" reality show. But we shall see... What is your ultimate goal in MMA? - I just want to be able to do this as a career. I will fight in the UFC on day, that's a fact. It would be nice to be a top ten level fighter, and that is what I will work on for as long as I am able to. I would really like to open my own school in the future and pass on all the knowledge that I hope to acquire in my years training with top notch cats. And it is a real honor to represent Clover Black inside and outside of the cage. I thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. |
